Canadian Youth Chess Championship 2018

There was a record-breaking 363 players from all across Canada at the premier youth chess championship to compete for National titles in sections separated by age and gender (Open and Girls for U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18).  The Canadian Youth Chess Championship took place in Quebec City from July 2-5, 2018.  Winners qualify to join Team Canada at the 2018 World Youth Chess Championship in Halkidiki, Greece in October 2018; or at the World Cadet Chess Championship in Santiago de Compostela, Spain in November 2018.

BC was well represented with 42 players and the following players won Top Honours and an invitation to represent Canada at their respective World Youth Chess Championship (U14, U16, U18) or World Cadet Chess Championship (U8, U10, U12):
NM Joshua Doknjas – U16 Open – 2nd Place
Brandon Zhu – U18 Open – 1st Place after playoffs
William Bremner – U18 Open – 2nd Place after playoffs

Eirew Pepi – U18 Girls – 2nd Place
Jessica Qian – U12 Girls – 1st Place
