On May 6, 2017 Team WA hosted the annual WA-BC International Team Match (Intermat), which has the top 2 BC players from Kindergarten to Grade 12 play their counterpart top 2 WA players. In Round 1, Team WA playing as White, took the lead by scoring 14.5 points out of a possible 26 games. Team BC mounted a tremendous comeback in Round 2, and with 2 games remaining, Team BC now playing as White, held a tight lead of 25.5 points to Team WA’s 24.5. The final 2 games resulted in a draw (FM John Doknjas) and win (Aiden Zhou) for Team BC which clinched the match for Team BC.
Final score: Team BC 27 pts vs. Team WA 25 pts.
